08 Jun Deek & Dustin’s Putnam, CT workshop recap
I had a great time at Deek’s Putnam, CT workshop in May, 2015. Three days of being surrounded by inspiring people, and lively, creative painting & hammering. We started on Friday with a talk by Deek, who outlined a loose timeline for the weekend, and plans for the build. Then we got to it.
There was something for everyone, and if you felt more comfortable watching, that’s fine too. It was very self-directed. By the second day, everyone had found their groove, and seemed to be really enjoying themselves. One word of advice? Earplugs. You’re going to wish you had them.
The days were spent with hands-on building, the evenings with talks, and plenty of networking all around. Hands down, I’d do another one in a heartbeat—and will be in September!
Here’s a time-lapse video of the build.
The workshop venue was cool, too. It was hosted by an art gallery, The Empty Spaces Project, “The Empty Spaces Project believes that exposure to cutting-edge arts programming, and education inspires collaborative action. Through our multidisciplinary arts exhibitions, we seek to revitalize communities locally and nationally, through renewed business investment, increased tourism, and sustainable programs.” The above is a pic of the lower-level space; proudly showing Deek’s sketches on the wall.
Upcoming in Vermont
He and his team do quite a few workshops, and they’re all over the country. I’m looking forward to his upcoming camping/building weekend in Vermont. Here’s his site for more details.
