19 Feb Introducing Basecamp01, our headquarters

Let’s start by saying: she’s not perfect. With a budget of only $5,000, you’re lucky to find a truck that runs—let alone well—and is in great shape. That said, maybe even because of her imperfections, she is perfect. Perfectly imperfect. We’re embracing the idea that age brings great character, and where there’s heart, you get a champion.

This 14′ long 1988 International box truck will be transformed into our mobile headquarters over the first half of 2017. The official name for headquarters is Basecamp01, but she’s also lovingly called Shirley.

She was purchased in Georgia in late October 2016, and needed to get to Vermont within 15 days to be inspected. Let’s just say that journey was eventful, starting with a dead battery at the first gas station that lead to a new alternator installed there on the road. Nevertheless, she’s a trooper and made it to Dean’s Quality repair shop in North Adams, MA, at 2 a.m. on a snowy night.

Over the next two months, Basecamp01 was thoroughly inspected, repaired, and passed Vermont’s state inspection.

Now it’s time to build! Well, not quite. After the holidays with family, and then a long drive to warmer weather—because New England is no place to build in the winter if you’re mobile and have a choice!

Presently, Rebekah has been hard at work getting the Kickstarter campaign launched so the interior build can begin. While the campaign is under way, she’ll get started on some of the time consuming prep work.
